Volunteer Celebration Event
Emmy’s annual Volunteer Celebration was a special opportunity to recognise the many people who generously give their time, energy and care to our residents and community.
Held during the week of Shavuot, the evening reflected the festival’s themes of giving and community, values our volunteers bring to life every day.
A highlight of the event was a presentation by educator and Jewish community advocate Sheina Gutnick, who shared her powerful story of resilience, leadership and Jewish identity. Her warmth, insight and authenticity resonated deeply with guests and made the evening particularly memorable.
The Heart of Emmy Awards were presented to long‑standing volunteer bus drivers Roger Lewis, Phil Burman and Ray Miller, recognising the important role they play in helping residents remain connected to the community beyond Emmy’s doors.
Alongside a delicious Shavuot-inspired dairy supper prepared by Ash and the catering team, guests were entertained by live music from Sadya Liberow and Mendy Winner.
We thank all our volunteers for the countless ways they enrich the lives of residents and strengthen the Emmy community.

Volunteer Spotlight
Bringing Smiles with Pet Therapy
Marni and her therapy dog, Ozzie, from Lort Smith Animal Hospital’s pet therapy program, are regular volunteers at Emmy.
For residents who have owned dogs or spent a lifetime around animals, these visits offer a familiar connection and something special to look forward to. A pat, cuddle or quiet moment with Ozzie often brings back fond memories and can brighten a resident’s mood for the rest of the day.
Recognising the important role pets play in many people’s lives, Marni and Ozzie spend time with residents who have a particular love of dogs or cherished memories of their own pets. Their visits provide companionship, encourage engagement, and leave a positive lasting impact.
We are incredibly grateful for volunteers like Marni, whose commitment supports our community, with a little help from our four‑legged friends.
