Drawn from recipes shared by residents, families, volunteers and staff, the book captures the stories that sit behind the food. Among them is Emmy resident Erika Hacker’s Sachertorte recipe, a memory that reaches back to Auschwitz, where women exchanged recipes from memory while dreaming of the meals they hoped to share again one day. More than 80 years later, that recipe has found its place in these pages.
