Chief Rabbi Mirvis KBE Visits Emmy

We were deeply honoured to have hosted Chief Rabbi Mirvis KBE of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth at Emmy Monash.

His visit, presented in partnership with St Kilda Shule, offered a rare and meaningful opportunity for our community to hear directly from one of the world’s most respected Jewish leaders during his time in Australia. For our residents and their families, the occasion was truly exceptional.

Following an intimate gathering with the Chief Rabbi alongside Emmy and St Kilda Shule representatives, Rabbi Glasman AM began the service, followed by a joyful performance by the St Kilda Shule Choir, setting a warm and uplifting atmosphere.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis then delivered a thoughtful and inspiring address, highlighting the importance of giving and kindness, creating a moment of deep resonance for all in attendance.

Emmy resident John Kraus shared heartfelt words of appreciation on behalf of everyone in attendance, acknowledging the privilege and the emotion of the experience.

The evening concluded with a meaningful Kabbalat Shabbat service, drawing the community together in reflection, song and shared spirit.

This memorable visit stands as a significant milestone for our community—strengthening relationships, enriching our collective experience and honouring our shared heritage.

A Moment of Remembrance: Light Will Win

On 22 January, National Day of Mourning, our community gathered at Emmy Monash to remember the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack.

Fifteen candles were lit for the 15 lives lost, with residents, volunteers and staff serving as candle lighters. Each person was thoughtfully chosen to reflect a meaningful connection—through heritage, experiences, community roles or friendships, ensuring every flame honoured the individuality and humanity of each victim.

We were honoured to welcome Rabbi Yaakov Glasman AM of St Kilda Shule, and survivor Chavi Israel Block, who shared a courageous and deeply moving reflection.

Though the gathering was sombre, the message was clear: today we remembered, today we honoured, and together, we reaffirmed that light will win.

“Today was deeply emotional for our community. We stood with the Jewish community, with our residents and families, and with one another—to remember, to comfort and to hold hope.”
